Over limit transportation is a significant issue in China's highway transportation system at present. Height and width limits are all restrictive measures established by highway management departments in accordance with the actual situation of roads, which have a mandatory protective effect on public facilities such as roads, bridges, and power lines. Traditional overrun detection stations use static detection at fixed locations, which takes a long measurement time and has low accuracy, making it difficult to effectively avoid overrun accidents.

The occurrence of traffic accidents, especially bridge jamming and collision accidents of ultra-high trucks, is becoming increasingly frequent. Although traffic management departments have taken measures such as adding height limit signs to prevent such accidents, they still occur from time to time. The commonly used gantry elevated structures cannot guarantee the safety of drivers and passengers. In the event of an accident, it will not only cause damage to vehicles and elevated structures, but also lead to traffic congestion and potential safety hazards.Therefore, new height limit monitoring solutions are needed. Currently, the application of new LiDAR technology can detect vehicle exceeding limit information, implement effective management of vehicles, and achieve the goal of avoiding actual harm to traffic facilities caused by ultra-high vehicles.

In order to solve the above problems, a non-stop off-site limit detection system can be used at the height limit positions of highway entrances, bridges, tunnels, culverts, and some special sections, and a laser radar detection system can be used to accurately measure the width and height of vehicles.

This vehicle length, width, and height detection system uses LiDAR as the core sensor. LiDAR can accurately detect vehicle size information matching data in real time when the vehicle passes to see if there is any exceeding limit behavior.LiDAR can be directly installed on a gantry or side pole 200 meters in front of the height limit point (specific distance will be selected based on the actual situation of the current road section) according to the scene. When a vehicle passes through the gantry, LiDAR will scan the vehicle at a high speed of 100Hz. Once an exceeding vehicle is found, it will be immediately fed back to the backend data system to stop the exceeding behavior in a timely manner, thus avoiding the actual harm of exceeding vehicles to traffic facilities, At the same time, effective management of vehicles is implemented to eliminate traffic safety hazards.
